The United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR) responds to natural disasters, such as floods, earthquakes, major storms and tornadoes, as well as disasters of human origin, such as explosions, shootings, and bombings.  Through local United Methodist churches and trained disaster response workers, UMCOR provides immediate relief, assistance with cleanup and rebuilding, pastoral counseling, and support for children and youth who have been through trauma.

The United Methodist Committee On Relief  responds to the tragic tornado, hurricane, tropical storm, and flooding damage in the United States. Support for relief efforts can be made by making your check out to Hiss UMC and on the memo line write, " Disaster Response, United States, UMCOR Advance #901670." As always, 100% of gifts to UMCOR through the Advance support the designated project. You can also go online to UMCOR.org and donate directly.

Call for Music Lovers!
Do you enjoy singing, or playing an instrument  and praising the Lord?  Hiss would love to have you join one of our 4 Choir Groups or Bell Ringers.  Call the church for more information:  410-668-5665.

Missions Update
Hiss Church has a covenant relationship with missionaries Nan McCurdy and Miguel Mairena.    They will be guest speakers at 8, 9:30 and 11AM services on Sunday, Sept. 11th and  will offer testimony of their work in Nicaragua.  The public is invited.

SON'S SPOT!
The Son's Spot is now located in the FELLOWSHIP HALL from 8:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.  on Sunday mornings.  The Ladies' Bible Class has graciously moved from this space so that Son's Spot can be held in one large room.  As always, come for fellowship, refreshments, fun, and a chance to gather with others who attend Hiss.
This is for all ages!

Could you or someone you know benefit from a Caring Christian Stephen Minister?  Is support needed  for health issues, divorce, marriage difficulties, child rearing, teenage conflicts, job loss, depression, empty nest syndrome, or other life challenges?  If so, please contact Pastor George Weitzel or Pastor Mark Smiley to request a trained and compassionate Stephen Minister.

THE SPIRE Newsletter Goes Electronic!
You can now sign up to receive the Spire via email, as a .pdf document.  If you wish to do this, please call or email the Church Office.  If you already receive the weekly church Yahoo! email, you will automatically receive the e-Spire.  If you wish to ONLY receive the electronic version, let the office know, and save the church some money. Church email  is office@hisschurch.org  or call 410-668-5665.

Prayer team to be formed in Fall 2011
